Please can you help me?

Teena Lyons, the highly respected former Mail on Sunday Business Correspondent, who has a special request for WoolworthsReunited dotcom members

Hello

I am guessing that, more than a year on after Woolworths closed, you may well have had it up to the back teeth with journalist requests for memories of that once great store?  But, here I am, another hack, asking for some of your time.

To introduce myself, my name is Teena Lyons and I spent many years writing about the highs and lows of Woolworths as retail correspondent of the Mail On Sunday.

I have recently been asked by a publisher to put together a proposal for a book looking at the High Street today.  They want me to discuss the implications of the changing way we shop, by looking back over our past experiences.  Within that, there is an element of the growth of the discount market, the power of supermarkets and the demise of hundreds of smaller independent shops.  Then, surely the most visible proof of how much things have changed, there is the collapse of High Street institutions such as Woolworths.

What I am looking for is former employees who wouldn’t mind sharing their memories of Woolworths in its heyday.  I am interested to hear about what it was like to work there, what marked it out from other retailers and how it adapted to new trends over the years.

As I said earlier, I am sure you may well feel Woolies Weary, after so many requests, but I would be enormously grateful if you could spare any of your time.  You can contact me on either of my phone numbers, or send me an email and I will come back to you straight away at a time of your convenience.

Thank you for your time in reading this,

Kind regards

Teena Lyons
